Lesson Overview
This is an lab activity where the students will use pipe cleaners to go through the steps of meiosis. They already saw the steps on paper now they will have to go through the steps hands on.

The students will be able to go through all the steps of meiosis and explain what is happen at different steps.
Instructional Sequence
Introducing the lesson
I will start of by asking the students if they have any misconceptions or misunderstandings with meiosis. If they don’t ask any I will then tell them that they will be working on a lab that goes through all the steps. Then I will ask them the question again if they have any misunderstandings of meiosis. They will have to work with their lab partners. They have already been grouped with lab partners for the year.
Instructional Activities
I will hand out the packet and let them know that it is to be done at their lab benches without talking to any other groups. The lab is very self explanatory, but I will still go through it quick and in detail. I will have it set up for me and go through it quickly so that they can see what/how I am looking for them to go through the activity. If they have any problems/questions to raise their hands and I will come and help. While they are working on this I will be walking around the classroom making sure that they are staying on task and also if they are having any trouble.
Concluding the Lesson
I will stop the class about 5 min early for them to start and clean up the lab and also to have them set it up for the next class. I will ask if any groups need more time. After that if there is any time left I will ask them again if they have any questions about meiosis and how did they like this activity, to get some feedback from them.
Assessing Student Understanding
They will be assessed from the questions in the lab packet. I will go through and read their answersand grade them on this.
Cautions
The only caution is time. They students will have to keep on task to finish. If they don’t finish I will give them 10 min the next class to finish.

Rationale
This is the final day for meiosis. This sheet has everything in it that we have talked about. This should be a strong assessment on the last 3-4 days for work we have put in. Also if they still don’t understand some parts hopefully this can help clarify them for the students.
